If you like to walk, hike or jog, this is for you. WalkStyles and the WeWhoWalk Tour, a national tour through all 50 state capitals to promote wellness and community through walking, will be in Lansing on Thursday, Oct. 4!

Sue Parks, WalkStyles CEO and tour director, along with WalkStyles’ Lansing ambassador, Leroy Harvey, Co-coordinator, Moving Our Community Towards Health Coalition, Ingram County Health Department, will lead a 5-mile walk on a save and scenic route that highlights Lansing. Other notable walkers include the Capital Area United Way president, Michael Brown, and COO of external operations, Teresa Kmetz.

It’s free to participate (and receive a free t-shirt and light breakfast), but you must register for a free membership at www.walkstyles.com by Wednesday, Oct. 3, to do so.

The tour is in relation to the recently re-designed WalkStyles’ website, www.walkstyles.com, which is a free social networking site designed to connect walkers and those who want to live a life of wellness through walking.

In addition, it is Striding to a Better Future Week at Michigan State University, located in Lansing. Walkers are invited to view exhibits on display in the Atrium, Agriculture Hall, following the walk, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

If you love to walk and want to meet new people, hop online to become a free member on www.walkstyles.com by Oct. 3 (which automatically registers you for the walk), grab your walking shoes, and meet at the Radisson Lansing Hotel, 111 N. Grand Ave., at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4. See you then!

Lansing, Michigan has a hospital. Lansing has many medical professionals operating in a variety of specialties. Fundamental healthcare begins with an individual or family?s access to a general physician, call it a family doctor or for children, a Pediatrician and for women a Gynecologist. Certainly, for people like me, a good therapist; better yet, a Psychiatrist! But why is it that someone in Lansing, Michigan cannot locate a physician that will take new patients?
CityBlog Lansing, was struck by the frustration that was apparent in Susie Pena’s (a Lansing, Michigan resident) post on May 9, 2007, which read as follows:
I have been here 1 year this June and have yet to find a doctor that will accept new patients. I am very discouraged that there is no avenue for new residents to find out who is available without a lot of labor intensive efforts.
Does Lansing have a physician association or, does the hospital know of new physicians coming into Lansing that are looking for new patients? It would behoove all communities to have some centralized service that maintains a list of physicians who can accept patients as either “new” or on a rotating basis until the new resident can establish regular healthcare.
